TkH (Walking Theory) platform for performing arts theory and practice, Belgrade in collaboration with Kontrapunkt, Skopje, within the project Deschooling Classroom (O^O), presents the seminar and public lecture by Aldo Milohnić, sociologist and theorist of theatre and culture from Ljubljana. He has been invited to take part in the project of collective self-education in arts and culture Deschooling classroom (O^O), by working group Art and/as politics, which deals with research of relations between art and politics, as well as of repoliticization of the discourses of humanities. The public lecture with discussion in the Cultural centre Magacin is the final session of two-day seminar, that Aldo Milohnić will conceive for that group.

PUBLIC DOMAIN AND ITS PERFORMANCES

There is a long history of struggles for preserving public spaces from investment’s expansionism of corporate capital. What is relatively new, however, is the neoliberal strategy to bypass the public control over the public good by using so called “public-private partnership” model. Although this phrase is an oxymoron in its own right, it is used by politicians, managers and PR-departments to veil the real threat of this kind of business for public interests.

In introduction of his lecture, Aldo Milohnić will discuss penetration of private capital into public urban space in general and commercialization of art and culture in particular. Second part of his lecture will be devoted to several examples of artistic actions and performances in urban public spaces questioning the status of public domain and public interest in relation to “branding” in economy, politics, and art system.

The lecture is in English language, without translation.

ALDO MILOHNIĆ, MA in sociology of culture, is a researcher at the Peace Institute Ljubljana – Institute for Contemporary Social and Political Studies where he works on research projects in the fields of sociology of culture and cultural policy. He is editor of the Politike book series, author of several books (most recently Theories of Contemporary Theatre and Performance, 2009) and editor of numerous special issues of cultural journals. His texts are published in journals Maska, Frakcija, TkH, Amfiteater and Performance Research as well as in catalogues and anthologies. He has participated as a lecturer in numerous international conferences on social and cultural theories, performing arts theory and cultural politics as well as in the Contemporary Performing Arts Seminar (permanent seminar organized by Maska, Ljubljana). Fields of interest: sociology of culture, cultural policy, performing arts theory, epistemology of social sciences and the humanities.

Ballettikka Internettikka is a series of tactical art projects which began in 2001 with the exploration of Internet ballet. It explores wireless Internet ballet performances combined with guerrilla tactics and mobile live Internet broadcasting strategies.

Ballettikka Internettikka uses impossible connections to develop the possible strategies of resistance and disobedience. The project participates in the already existing protocols of communication, yet without being servile to these protocols, it opens up links between emotionality and technology, production and ethics, desire and organization, imagination and institution. The distribution of politics and intimacy without any reason and purpose, with the use of limited, defined and controlled protocols is a dystopia and an unsubmissive revolt to the world of capital, which can be disarmed only by the use of its own tactics.

– is an intimate mobile communicator and media artist. He researches intimate emotional tactics and traumatic low-tech guerrilla strategies. He has shown his work at more than a hundred exhibitions in fifty countries on all the continents and received a number of awards. His artworks are included in the permanent collections of the Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; the Museo Nacional Reina Sofía, Madrid; Moderna galerija Ljubljana, Slovenia; Computerfinearts Gallery, New York; Maribor Art Gallery and others.

– is a composer and sound manipulator. Between 1982 and 1986 he was frontman for the Slovene punk group O!KULT. He is a pioneer of the Slovene techno music scene. Since 1987, he has been composing music for both Slovenian and international theatre, dance and multimedia performances and projects, and has made guest appearances throughout Europe. Recently he works with Irena Pivka on a series of audio-visual installations and the Radio Cona – temporary radio station for contemporary art.

Ballettikka Internettikka is a co-production of Intima Virtual Base (www.intima.org) and Cona (www.cona.si) 2001–2010 and Aksioma 2003.

The main idea for this dance solo is inspired by spiritual séances in XVIII and XIX century that became quite popular in English-language countries, after rise of a religious movement known as Spiritualism. In these gatherings, dance was used as a tool for presenting the communication with spirits and transmitting the message to followers.

Many mediums had a strong interest in social justice, so they often delivered passionate performances and speeches on burning social subject such as end of slavery, drinking ban and women’s rights to vote.

Focus of the solo is satisfying desires and their emergence later on…and what can be fanatical then. And dance is not consider here as a collective act, so it is observed in Magacin.

SERIES was created as part of LOOPING, project developped by Uzès danse CDC, with the partnership of TanzWerkstatt Berlin and O Espaço do Tempo, with the support of the Culture Programme of the European Union.

"The year is 2027. Tarik is a young engineer. Merima is his beloved. They can save the towns people of Lukavac if they broadcast the radio drama “Catastrophe” from the year 2000. Heroes and fairies, love and dystopia, rivers and lakes, dams and factories, BH and EU, epic geography and oral tradition: between these a future romance is shaped."

Lala Raščić’s The Damned Dam is a narrative in progress. This multimedia art project consists of performative research, blog, public events, performances, video installation, documents, illustration and publication. During September, October and November project will be produced and realized in a form of series of public presentations.

Lala Raščić’s project The Damned Dam departs from a real event when the broadcasting of the radio drama Catastrophe in the Bosinan town of Lukavac caused effect similar to Orson Wells’s War of the Worlds, but instead of reporting news about aliens, Catastrophe reports about constructive damage of Modrac damn. Catastrophe caused a panic among people living in Lukavac and they were forced to seek protection on the nearby Ratiš hill.

The motif of the flood is embedded in the fictional narrative that is composed on the basis of field research on specific locations and events in the region. The collected materials are processed as objects, video installations, audio recordings, a blog and performances that form the elements of this modular project. While researching in Belgrade, the author found couple of interesting topics that could be the part of this narrative:

The narrative strategies that the artist employs in her work are, in the project The Damned Dam, informed by Bosnian traditions of oral literature. Based on the study of these traditional forms, the artist delivers a fantasy love story set in the future that is intersected with socio-political connotations.

Lala Raščić was born 1977 in Sarajevo. She graduated in 2001 at the Academy of the Fine Arts, Zagreb. Postgraduate studies at Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten, Amsterdam. At first she was creating video works, and then started to create a narrative audio artworks and vector based computer drawings. She has exhibited at many group exhibitions and video art festivals and attended many resident programmes. Lala Raščić has had a number of solo exhibitions (Sarajevo, Zagreb, Belgrade, Banja Luka, Novi Sad, Amsterdam, Ljubljana, Rome, Chicago). She was awarded several times for internet and video projects.

Locomotion 3 under the title ‘Space for dialogue’ this year emphasizes the need for discourse on the scene between authors, actors, stage, public as well as those who come to a decision for the development of the arts. There is a need for a dialogue. This dialogue will allow critical reflection of the current circumstances in which art is orginised and produced. In addition it’ll consider how the festivals format can intervene in its improvement.

This year programme contains several aspects such as collaboration (the pre-event [T.I.M.E.] on October 6th and the Movework - talk-shop on dance and dramaturgy from October 15th to 20th); education for young dancers from the State Music and Ballet School Centre Ilija Nikolovski-Luj and the Faculty for Ballet Pedagogy/Department for Contemporary Dance (the workshop held by Maud Liardon on October 15th ), regional and international programme (the performance MOVE-AS/Stories of the Body 4 from Slovenia, ARNICA 9CH (my life as a dancer) from Switzerland on October 16th, and Surprised body from Norway/Italy on October 20th) and the special programme dedicated to young Macedonian authors on October 23rd in which we as programme editors were not trying to select but to provide a platform where these young authors could present their latest works to the audience.

This year's edition of the City of Women Festival will address the topic Between Past & Future.
The conceptual background relates to the eponymous book by Hannah Arendt who, back in the 1960's, argued that the condition of human existence, robbed of the traditional, transcendental, religious and moral standards employed to bridge the abyss between past and future, lost direction.

Artists and theoreticians with various views, experiences, approaches, backgrounds and cultural milieu will challenge audiences between 8th and 17th October with their reflections and responses to the relationship between past and future that we confront today.
The events will be held at most various venues, such as Cankarjev Dom, the Kino Šiška Centre for Urban Culture, the Old Power Station – Elektro Ljubljana, Škuc Gallery, Kinodvor, Glej Theatre, Ljubljana Dance Theatre, Gruberjeva Palace, Tromostovje etc.

T.I.M.E.
Contemporary Dance and Music Performance

On the subject of T.I.M.E, German musician (Fello) and 5 Macedonian performers who collaborated for 4 days developed a work in process. This performance, a border-crossing cooperation project is set on the edges of contemporary dance and digital music. The merge of different specificities in the performance developed by the Macedonian contemporary performers/dancers and a German electronic musician is an artistically as well as intercultural inspiring exchange.

The performance will take place to the topic T.I.M.E.in and around of the building of the City Museum of Skopje. The museum is hosting an archive of national remembrance and a symbol of the past. At this place, with its diverse connections to time as archive and as memorial, performers will intervene and present its own interpretation of the topic. The music-dance-work in process - performance is site specific project and has been developed jointly by the NGOs Lokomotiva and Kontrapunkt.

This event is part of the festivals LocoMotion and de:sonanz, as an idea to bring two performing arts festivals into one event, is announcing both Festivals in one Pre-Event. T.I.M.E. is a unique cooperation between two festivals in Skopje.
The event is part of the autumn-cultural-program „Expanded Media. Media & the Arts“ by the NGO Kontrapunkt.

Dragana Bulut and Milka Djordjevich amplify the artifice of performance in order to reveal the generic character of contemporary dance and the larger system from which it is produced. They work with marginalized performers, whose inability to escape the pretense of performance is magnified, as their endeavor in moving produces a futile result.
