Programme is addressed to dance and performance artists from Eastern and South-eastern Europe from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegowina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Mazedonia, Moldavia, Montenegro, Russia, Serbia and the Ukraine.

After six years of existence the artist-in-residence programme will continue in 2009 within the ongoing dialogue established among Tanzquartier Wien and artists, initiatives and institutions based in Eastern and Southeastern Europe. For the first time all the 11 until then participating resident artists entered into correspondence and correlation at Tanzquartier Wien at the end of May / beginning of June, 2007. The aim was to put their own work in relation with that of the other artists in residence, to exchange with locally based artists and the audience as well as to question and further develop this specific residence’s concept. Since spring 2002 were in residence at Tanzquartier Wien: Dalija Aćin (SRB), Andrei Andrianov (RUS), Ion Dumitrescu (RO), Matija Ferlin (CRO), Eduard Gabia (RO), Helena Golab (PL/E), Krõõt Juurak (EST/A), Márta Ladjánszki (HU), Nina Meško (SLO), Mihai Mihalcea (RO), Manuel Pelmuş (RO), Alexandra Pirici (RO), Nikolina Pristaš (CRO).

 

On February 17, 2009 an international jury will meet and decide about the residence in spring 2009.
 

The residence lasts for a maximum of 8 weeks (6 weeks at TQW, for two further weeks a studio will be organised in the city; less is possible) and shall open a multilayered exchange among international artists and create qualified working conditions.

The residence programme is a cooperation of KulturKontakt Austria and Tanzquartier Wien since 2002. www.kulturkontakt.or.at, www.tqw.at

 

Brief outline of the profile of the residence:

  • _the residence covers a monthly scholarship of euro 900 + 50% travel costs + accomodation in an apartment + insurance
  • _free participation at the daily training/workshop programme with international artists and highly qualified teachers on specific contemporary approaches
  • _free visit of all performances at Tanzquartier Wien, of open laboratories, lectures, symposia and discussions
  • _research and development of own artistic work: a studio is at the disposal of the resident artist (professional equipment)
  • _option to present own work in the studio to an interested audience (open studio, informal presentation during the residence or towards the end)
  • _use of all research and working facilities at the Theory and Information Centre (library, mediatheque, video editing, internet as well wireless)
  • _during the residence choreographers/performers/theorists Vienna based can be invited to discuss the artistic approaches following specific interests and the field of work of the resident artist
  • _based on further discussions with KulturKontakt Austria it may be possible that the choreographer invites a 2nd dancer/performer to join the residence. This depends on the current working process of the artist and the financial possibilities of KulturKontakt Austria
  • _professional accompaniement during the residence by Martina Hochmuth, dramaturge at Tanzquartier Wien and head of Research and Information Centre

Selection:

A jury of 4-5 persons will meet on February 17, 2009 at Tanzquartier Wien to distribute the residence march/april 2009

 

Target group:

  • _choreographers and performers who develop solo and/or group work
  • _who are interested in developing their artistic work within another cultural context
  • _sense for innovation as well as interest in experimentation are required
